We offer a wide range of media in various languages such as Arabic, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and many more. For children, we also have bilingual and multilingual children's books in addition to English-language titles.

Intercultural library

► Library tours

Bunte Sprechblasen We offer free library orientation tours for participants in language courses, vocational training programs, and other intercultural groups. Course leaders can book a tour by phone or email (see contact options below).


► Learning German

Books for learning German In our library, you will find books for learning German, which you can borrow with a valid Pinneberg City Library card. There are books for self-study as well as books for easy reading in German.

Bild Gesprächskreis Also, feel free to join our moderated conversation group ("Gesprächskreis") where you can meet and talk to other people who learn German. It is free of charge and you can join without registration. Our conversation leaders work on a voluntary basis. They are open to people from all cultural backgrounds and support you in learning the German language. Just come by and join in - every Monday from 16:45 to 17:45.


Library membership, fees, house rules and other library regulations

► Becoming a library member

In order to become a library member, you must fill out and sign our standard registration form, which you can find here ⇒. Please bring your ID card ("Personalausweis") or proof of identity (e.g. passport) along with an official registration confirmation ("Meldebescheinigung") to register with us. If you have a social pass from the city of Pinneberg, if you are a student or social assistance recipient please show us a document of evidence to pay a reduced fee. The fee (see next section) is paid during registration.

Please note that all documents must be in original form and format. (Digital) Copies and photos cannot be accepted.


► Library fees
  • Fees for children and teenagers:
    The library membership is free up to the age of 18. A one-time fee of € 1.50 is charged for the initial registration.
  • Fees for adults:
    If you are 18 years or older membership costs € 2.50 per month or € 11 for 6 months or € 20 for 1 year.
  • People in school, training, and recipients of social assistance:
    The membership costs € 1 per month or € 5 for 6 months or € 9 for 1 year.
  • Lending fees for families:
    (2 adults or more in one household)
    The membership costs € 30 for 1 year - one library card included, each additional library card costs € 1.50.
  • Fees for institutions and their employees:
    The membership costs € 20 for 1 year.
  • Holders of a social pass from the city Pinneberg:
    The library membership is free.
  • Late fees:
    If you return media late, it will cost 30 cents per opening day and per item starting from the first overdue day (max. € 10.00 per item). An additional fee of € 2.50 will be charged for each reminder sent.
  • Replacement for lost or damaged user cards:
    • For individuals 18 and older and family cards: € 2.50
    • For individuals under 18 and for family members: € 1.50
  • Fees for lost media:
    • Media replacement based on the cost of procurement
    • Processing fee per media item: € 3.00
  • Other fees
    • You can reserve borrowed media for € 1 per item.
    • You can borrow books from other libraries across Germany for € 2.50 per item and renewal.
    • Fee for address finding: € 5.00

The city library is a place for everyone and we want you and other visitors to feel comfortable here. Therefore, we kindly ask you to behave properly. All areas of the library must be left in the same condition in which they were found.

Please especially observe the following rules:

I. House right

On behalf of the mayor, the city library management exercises the house right. Management and staff instructions must be followed.

By entering the city library, users acknowledge the house rules.

Anyone who violates the house rules can be temporarily or permanently excluded from the library. The decision is made by the library management or the respective representative.

II. Rules

  1. To avoid disturbing other library users, please turn off the sound or use headphones when using electronic devices. Talking on the phone within the library is not permitted.
  2. At workstations without computers, cold or hot drinks may be consumed in closed containers. The consumption of alcoholic beverages, drugs, or cigarettes is prohibited in the library. Food may only be consumed with explicit permission from the management during events.
    People under the influence of intoxicating substances are not allowed to enter the library.
  3. Please note that you are responsible for complying with copyright laws when using our technical infrastructure. Photography or filming is generally prohibited within the library and is only allowed with prior approval from the management.
  4. Viewing pornography or content that violates criminal law, youth protection regulations, or copyright law is prohibited on both library-owned and private computers within the library.
  5. Use of electrical outlets is only allowed with prior permission.
  6. Any visible or audible practice of religious activities is not allowed in the library.
  7. Distribution of flyers and hanging of posters is only allowed with prior approval from the library management.
  8. Bringing animals into the library – except for guide dogs and assistance dogs – is not permitted. Entering with sports equipment such as inline skates, scooters, etc., is also prohibited.
  9. Taking media from the library without checking them out is considered theft and will be reported to the authorities.
  10. The library takes no responsibility for items lost within the library.
  11. Please contact the staff if you need assistance.

► Easy accessibility

Rampe Along the street "Am Rathaus", there are several disabled parking spaces within visual range of the library. The entrance to the library is at ground level, and the first floor is easily accessible by elevator. With spacious corridors and clearly visible signs, the media shelves are easy to find; numerous seating and resting areas are scattered throughout the space.


► Meet, read and work

Meet, read and work In the main room on the first floor there are several seating areas where you can read or work - alone or in groups.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the library for using with your own devices.
All books can be read on site without registration and free of charge.


► Internet and PC workstations

Internet Several PC workstations with internet access, Office applications, USB connectivity and printer can be used after registration at the service desk.


Please note our rules for the use of PC workstations:

  • In order to use the PC workstations you need a valid Pinneberg City Library card.
  • If you do not have one, please bring your ID card ("Personalausweis") or proof of identity (e.g. passport) along with an official registration confirmation ("Meldebescheinigung") to register with us. All documents must be in original form and format. (Digital) Copies and photos cannot be accepted.
  • For minors, a consent form from a legal guardian is required.
  • You can use the PCs during our opening hours for 30 minutes.
  • You can book a time slot in advance by calling 04101 - 211 4444.
  • Printing costs vary depending on the paper size: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) prints cost 30 cents each, A3 (29.7 x 42 cm) prints cost 50 cents each.
  • After use, please tidy up the space, close all programs and remember to log out everywhere.
